Examples of Custom Design and 3D Printing

This page shows examples of custom design and 3D printing projects we have completed for customers.
Each project started with a real world problem and required custom design work before printing.

All custom work is quoted based on the specific requirements of each project.

Replacement wheel nut covers

The original OEM wheel nut covers were broken and no longer available, with no replacements able to be sourced.

The customer supplied an original OEM part, which we used as a reference. Accurate measurements were taken from the original part and a new model was recreated in CAD. During the design process, additional details were added at the customer’s request.

The development process included prototyping before producing the final parts. The image below shows a comparison between the original OEM part, an early prototype, and the final finished version.

The final parts were printed in ASA to withstand New Zealand sun exposure and heat. Over two years later, the customer regularly reports that the parts are still performing well in daily use.

Custom sliding window handles

The customer wanted custom handles that could be bonded to the sliding windows of a ute canopy and reflect their involvement in dog obedience and agility competitions.

The starting point was an existing laser cut product they had been purchasing from another vendor. The customer asked if we could create a similar solution using 3D printing.

We designed a bone shaped handle in CAD and customised each version with text or paw print patterns depending on the customer’s requirements.

The result was a very happy customer who regularly shows the handles at dog events around the country and continues to get us additional orders through word of mouth.

Replacement shower shelf

The original shower shelf had cracked over time, leaving broken sections that were sharp and unsafe to have in the shower.

The customer provided the damaged original part. We used 3D scanning to capture the overall shape, then manually measured and redesigned the mounting section to ensure a correct and secure fit.

The process required some prototyping and test fitting due to the nature of the breakage and mounting points. This work was completed for a local customer.

The outcome was two new shower shelves that are safe, sturdy, and restore normal use of the shower.

Thinking about a similar project

If you have a part that is broken, no longer available, or needs to be customised, we can help assess the best approach.

Design, scanning, and printing work is reviewed and quoted based on the specific requirements of each job.
